About Me

Born in Germany, raised in the United States, Bosnian and Croatian roots, I like to think of myself as a cosmopolitan and mature woman who is embracing diversity in all its shades and nuances. Throughout my life I have come to encounter a wide assortment of characters. I have been surrounded by ex-Yugoslav immigrants all my life, yet at the same time I spend majority of my time in school and dance lessons immersed into the American culture and way of life. The two worlds mix well: from spanakopita to pizza, soccer to football, Croatian to English, each part of my upbringing has merged and made me who I am today.

I was only 10 when my parents first sent me back to Bosnia on my own, "unaccompanied minor" being the official airlines term. Since then, I have spent almost every summer visiting friends and family in Europe. Experiencing another culture from such a young age gave me both a unique and wonderful opportunity to grow. It helped shaped me into an independent and courageous individual with a love for learning. Often times, the highlight of my trips was not the lovely vacation by the Adriatic Sea, or the endless amounts of delicious chocolate, but the ability to go to the supermarket by myself, something that kids here in the U.S. usually do not experience until they are 16. It seems trivial now, but I distinctly remember how much I enjoyed the feeling of being independent and fending for myself in a new environment.

My travels have left me with a slightly different perspective on life in comparison to my peers who have not had the same opportunities. Experiencing foreign cultures offers more than just a new experience, it has opened my mind to the endless facets of life and how those all around the world deal with them. I have learned to enjoy the challenge of adapting to new cultures. As a result of this, I decided to major in marketing, a field that has endless international opportunities.

The combination of cultural intelligence and the studying of marketing will hopefully continue challenging me to question everything I learn rather than accepting a certain way is absolute. In doing so I will feel more comfortable setting numerous goals for myself. As for my personal marketing goals, I wish to apply as much creativity as possible to everything I do. I think it is essential to use creativity if one wishes to keep up with ever-changing market demands.

I look forward to working in a field that is full of diversity and excitement. My biggest fear is being stuck with a monotonous career but I truly believe that is not possible with marketing. I am dedicated to investing time into both my professional and personal development. Along with a career in international marketing, I hope to work for a security agency, such as the FBI. To help me further prepare for such a career, I am learning Spanish I hope to continue until I become fluent. Though I am already fluent in two languages, English and Croatian, being trilingual would be a great way to set me apart from any competition I encounter in the future. My studies along with my study abroad experience in Berlin, Germany, reveal that I am both capable and mature. I hope that my initiative to relocate is acknowledged as an ability to both adapt and learn in a new environment.
